Prima Materia

The first collection by Haus Maleficarum is inspired by alchemical processes of material transformation.

In alchemy, prima materia refers to primordial matter — the original substance from which, according to early alchemical concepts, all forms of matter were believed to arise; it also served as the starting point of the Great Work. For Haus Maleficarum, this idea becomes a way of looking at minerals: as objects shaped by nature, time and processes of transformation.

Each specimen in this collection has been carefully selected for its distinct form, structure and visual character. Particular attention is given to unusual mineral combinations, natural inclusions, surface texture, colour, proportion and the visual quality of each object.

Prima Materia brings together minerals not only as collectible specimens, but also as tangible fragments of the natural world — objects that introduce weight, structure and the grounding presence of natural forms into their surroundings.
