Description
An elongated prismatic quartz crystal with a well-defined termination at one end and irregular secondary growths along its upper edge. Internal fractures and milky veils contrast with clearer sections, adding variation to its otherwise linear form.
Acquired from a private collection, with its geological origin undocumented.
Lore
Ancient Greeks called rock crystal krystallos, believing it to be ice hardened by such intense cold that it had turned to stone, a belief later recorded by Pliny the Elder in his Natural History. In later divinatory traditions, crystal spheres were used to seek visions and knowledge of things hidden from ordinary sight. These traditions gave quartz enduring associations with clarity, insight and revelation.
