Description
Translucent quartz crystals emerging from a dark, chlorite-rich matrix. Grey-green chlorite partially coats their surfaces and forms cloudy areas within the crystals, contrasting with clearer sections of quartz and lighter mineral growth at the base.
Lore
Ancient Greeks called rock crystal krystallos, believing it to be ice hardened by such intense cold that it had turned to stone, a belief later recorded by Pliny the Elder in his Natural History. In later divinatory traditions, crystal spheres were used to seek visions and knowledge of things hidden from ordinary sight. These traditions gave quartz enduring associations with clarity, insight and revelation.
